How Much Does Loyalty Cost?

How much does loyalty cost? I am finding executives that seem to believe there is a price tag to loyalty, a quid pro quo. The executive that takes that approach to loyalty is a cancer on the organization, the unit, the team. That organization which allows this type of cancer to exist will die a slow and agonizing death.

What is loyalty? Simply put, loyalty is devotion and faithfulness to a cause, country, group, or person. In a work environment, this means a person is loyal to the organization, seniors, peers, and subordinates.   (Read more)

Focus Woman, Focus!

You are in a small and elite group. You are a female senior executive. Where is your focus?

I have read many an article and had many conversations on where does the senior executive focus. It is on results. No, it is on people. No, it is on_______(you fill in the blank).

You most senior executives, by most senior I mean "C" level, 70% of your time is spent focusing on the future. Your mission is not to do the job you did previously, making sure today happens. Your mission is to guide the organization safely into the future. Most of your time, 70%, should be dedicated to that effort.

The remaining 30% of your time is dedicated to ensuring the strategy is being executed, touching your people, walking around, being seen and being approachable. You are checking the pulse of your organization, and the organization is checking your pulse.

Senior Executives have little time to waste. Use it wisely and focus.

A Thought on Loyalty

I am often asked for leadership advice based on my Marine Corps experience for use in business. This section is providing short leadership tips you can use in becoming an Exceptional Leader. Being good on any given day is easy. Being exceptional requires daily effort. Enjoy the read.

Loyalty to Marines is devotion to country, Corps, seniors, peers, and subordinates. Marines believe in unwavering loyalty to fellow Marines, up the chain of command, down the chain of command and to peers.

Marines recognize that Loyalty is hand in hand with Courage. That is having the fortitude to stand up for what is right and to accept blame when something is your fault. Marines don't use loyalty as an excuse for lack of courage.

How do you view loyalty?
