What Are You For?

A friend just passed an article to me for my opinion. The article was voicing a lot of anger toward the Commissioner of the National Football League for allowing the demonstrations taking place on the sidelines during the playing of the National Anthem. Particularly noteworthy, the article was penned by fellow Marine and friend.

I am receiving a surprising number of requests for my opinion. Here it is.   (Read more)

Success and More Success

Often I find myself explaining to male executives the why's of needing to have more women groomed for greater positions of responsibility in the organization. Invariably, I start rolling off the statistics of how successful women are in business.

One of my favorite statistics—that women have started more than 51% of the new businesses in this country over the past ten years, I am replacing with the latest statistic—according to the Business Journal, 39% of ALL U.S businesses are projected to be Women-Owned Companies by 2017. Women owned businesses are in practically every segment of industry from construction to white-collar services.

Equally exciting, Women-Owned Businesses are hiring. Over the next 12 months, 77% of Total Women Owners are projecting hiring 3.4 new full-time employees.

Ladies, never stop believing in you. Regardless of men coming around to understand the significance of having more women in leadership positions or not, continue to march. You are doing great, and the sky is the limit.

Right Vs. Right an Ethical Issue

I am often asked for leadership advice based on my Marine Corps experience for use in business. This section is providing short leadership tips you can use in becoming an Exceptional Leader. Being good on any given day is easy. Being exceptional requires daily effort. Enjoy the read.

The greatest ethical dilemma is not balancing right and wrong, for example, an individual covering an offense of a workmate or a friend out of a misplaced sense of loyalty. Most employers are familiar with this issue, and somehow, correct the problem as distasteful as it may be.

The tough question is when right and right collide, what does one do? I used an example in the main article of this newsletter concerning the lack of training dollars for law enforcement. Is it right to husband taxpayer money? Of course it is. Is it right to give law enforcement better education and training that prepares them for doing their jobs today and into the future? Of course it is.

The tough ethical question—which right is right? You are a taxpayer, what are you going to do? Doing nothing no longer works. I would love to hear your answers—John@FortitudeConsult.com
